Flood Alert Issued for Eight Counties in Kenya
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a flood alert for several counties across the country, warning residents to prepare for heavy rainfall expected to begin tomorrow.
The alert covers Samburu County, Turkana County, Marsabit County, Isiolo County, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, West Pokot County, Laikipia County and other parts of the country.
According to the department, heavy rains are forecast to fall from March 4 through March 7, increasing the risk of flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and along riverbanks.
Residents living in flood-prone zones have been urged to remain vigilant and move to safer areas if necessary. Authorities have also cautioned motorists against attempting to drive through flooded roads or cross swollen rivers, warning that such actions could be life-threatening.
Members of the public are further advised to avoid sheltering under trees during thunderstorms to reduce the risk of lightning strikes.
